Calisthenics Athlete & Certified Coach — Founder of Team Boundless

Yousef started calisthenics in 2019. After seeing his own progress in the sport, he began coaching and built his own team of athletes under the name Boundless Training. He has represented Kuwait internationally and taken first place at championships in Riyadh and the Netherlands.

In calisthenics he found the joy of training and constant athletic progress — it went from a lifestyle to a passion. Calisthenics combines strength, flexibility and muscle coordination, which is exactly what he was looking for.

Q&A

Why did you choose calisthenics? Is it popular in Kuwait?
In calisthenics I found the joy of training and constant athletic progress. It went from a lifestyle to a passion — I always want to learn new moves. Calisthenics combines strength, flexibility and muscle coordination, which is exactly what I was looking for.

In 2020 almost nobody in Kuwait knew calisthenics, but now it has spread widely thanks to social media — especially among school and university students.
What are the benefits of calisthenics?
It builds muscular strength, especially in the upper body, and flexibility — without flexibility most calisthenics moves are impossible. Most importantly it develops mind-muscle coordination, which gives you control of your body and helps in any sport you play. One of the things I love about calisthenics is the very high calorie burn from training only 3–5 days a week, which shows in your weight — calisthenics keeps you athletic at your ideal weight.
Is there a specific nutrition plan for this sport?
Of course — as with any athlete in any sport, nutrition is an essential part of progress. And since it is a strength sport, sleep and nutrition have to be part of your life.
Does calisthenics need special equipment?
Very simple things — one of the advantages of calisthenics is that you don't need equipment beyond a pull-up bar and a few basics if needed.
What is one of your most memorable coaching moments?
I met someone at a diwaniya who told me he loved calisthenics and wanted to try it, and I coached him for a few years. He loved it so much that within five years he became one of Kuwait's champions and a professional coach — and he lives with diabetes, yet reached a level where other athletes look up to him.
Do you have future ambitions?
To become one of the world champions in this sport — and just as important, to change people's lives through it.
